The use of the humble Call Logger has expanded over the years. Traditionally, it was a simple tool used to allow a charge back on external calls made and the monitoring of staff calls.  PBXs varied in the amount of data available, with some only showing the most basic data and lacked the ability to show a variety of information that we would assume was standard.  Fields output included date, time, duration, dialled number, etc.  With more technology came an increase on the amount of information that could be provided, so some systems could show diverted, held or transferred calls including answer delays, unique call ids and jitter times.  We’ve expanded our system, many times over the years, to allow for this additional information and many clients have been able to use this additional information to see how calls are routed and to ensure the call quality remained at acceptable levels.

In addition to these expansions, Call Logging companies have had to look to provide ‘non-traditional Call Logging information’ to fulfil clients requirements.  The ability to have all the communications data in a single repository assists the company in providing many different statistics ranging from expanded reports containing mobile bill information from a number of different suppliers, IVR systems, messaging/meeting systems to showing voice recording preferences, etc.  Clients find the ability to import a number of different organisational structures from different sources, allows them the flexibility to show their full phone usage reflected in their structure.

This has increased the sources and methods needed to obtain this information, many of which need to be configured to the company’s existing systems. Using flexible scripts to obtain external database information and integrating with these systems has allowed LUMBERJACK to collect a multitude of information.

For us, it is important that LUMBERJACK allows for additional user defined fields in it’s database to automatically import the data from many different sources.
